Biographie
A specialist maker of instruments in glass for which he had already acquired a high reputation several years before the 1823 Exhibition (1). Made standard thermometers and other glass-based registering instruments. A psychosomètre, a de Saussure-type hygrometer and a barometer are known (2). By 1827 he had added photometers and Daniel's hygrometer to his range, and had made an important improvement to Gay-Lussac's portable barometer (3). By the time of the 1834 exhibition he had added a thermétrographe for measuring deep sea temperatures, marine and mountain barometers (4). Of his portable siphon barometer the author of the 1839 report wrote 'there is not a single expedition that has left France which was not supplied with several of these instruments, as light as they are precise'.
