Biographie
A globe and map-publisher who founded his business in 1886, and an official supplier to French schools from 1889. The extensive output extended to a globe cigarette-lighter, cosmographical machines, and editions of some of his products in Spanish and Portuguese. Several of his globes were designed by E. Girard. 'Officier de l'Instruction Publique', he held several official positions in international exhibitions being Vice-president of the jury at Saragossa in 1908, rapporteur for the class 14 at Brussels in 1910 jury member in Turin (1911), London (1912) and Ghent (1913), and president of the cartography and tourism section at Leipzig in 1914. From 1912 onwards he was a consultant to the French government for foreign commerce. His globes ranged from pocket to library size and included original items such as a pocket-size physical globe weighted at the south Pole so that it always maintained position with the North Pole uppermost and could not be overturned. He also produced celestial planispheres (1). Much of the success of Forest's business depended upon his role as supplier to the Ministry of Public Instruction. He was succeeded by Girard & Barrère.
Globe sizes 18cm; 25cm; 30cm; 40cm; 50cm.
