Biographie
Born in Kuttenplan, a Czech town south of Zwickau (1), Kruines migrated to Paris at an unknown date probably in the last decades of the 18th century. A general instrument retailer and optical instrument-constructor, in the early years of the 19th century he carried out researches into optical glass and achromatic telescopes. At the 1806 exhibition he received an 'Honourable mention' for the latter (2), and in 1807, with Lançon, he reported on their development of a new composition of flint glass to the Académie des Sciences (3). After his death the business appears under the name 'Veuve Kruines' (4).
