Biographie
Balance-makers, established in 1848, were successors to Hirbect.1 They specialised in precision instruments for laboratory and assay work and exhibited in London in 1851. In Paris in 1855 they exhibited the full range of their balances and also a set of weights made in the new metal of aluminium and a balance having its beam made of the same material.2 This work led to a close relationship with H. Sainte Claire Deville, the pioneer of aluminium production in France, which lasted until his death in 1881, and the making of standard metric weights, as well as trial balances for the new weights in platinum introduced in 1881, was entrusted to the company. Foldi,g standard metres wer also made by the company.3 The brothers were succeeded by the son of one of them, A. Collot (qv ).
