Biographie

The son-in-law of Paul Froment with whom he worked from 1865 onwards. The 6 December 1878 a gyroscope of their construction was employed by E. Dubois for the correction of marine compasses and displayed at a meeting of the Société de Physique. and a gyroscope fitted. with an electro-motor was ordered from them by Krebs for his experiments on submarine navigation. in November 1889 (1). They showed different forms of rheostat and calipers for taking the diameter of conducting wire in hundredths and thousandths of a millimetre in the 1881 exhibition. They made Chantourcois' sphérographique instruments, and compasses for the marine, including those fitted with Duchemmin's circular magnet system (2). A steel pantograph by them was supplied to the LIsbon Observatory where it remains. In 1890 a new company Dumoulin Froment Doignon with a capital of 140,000 francs was created which incorporated the existing assets of Dumoulin Froment.
