Biographie

Mathematical instrument-maker, particularly for geodesy and surveying, who established his business in 1843. He was particularly associated with the making of pantographs (1), which he supplied to the Dépôt Général de la Guerre. In March 1848, during the Commune, he petitioned for the post of Instructor in the making of mathematical instruments in the projected state workshops, but the request was refused (2). He was responsible for several improvement to the pantograph (3). He apparently succeeded to the business of J. D. C. Gavard, although their relationship (if any) is not known.
