founded his business in 1872 with a speciality in photographic apparatus. The firm was of some importance supplying materials to nume rous official institutions as well as to the Shah of Persia, and had its own steam-powered factory, photographic workshop, laboratory and wood-working shop - all these at different addreses in Paris. The address in the rue des Carmes was that of the Irish college for priests suppressed in 1792 and these housed both workshops and saleroom. The wood yard, 100, rue des glaciers, was used to prepare wood that had been stored for from 8 to ten years.
