Biographie
-
An ‘élève special ‘ of E. Hartnack (qv) as he describes himself in the signature formula on some microscopes(1), and the successor of Kleinod (2). Verick acquired the workshop of Depenne, for whom he had worked, before 1872. In 1882 he took his workshop foreman and son-in-law, Maurice Stiassne into partnership. A specialist in the construction of microscopes and related apparatus, from c. 1867/8 he concentrated particularly on microtomes ‘undertaking to draw them out of the obscurity into which they had fallen and to popularise their use by constructing them for a modest price’ (3). He also kept a stock of scalpels, grinding stones and other items needed for the preparation of microscope specimens.
