A member of the Founders' Company of which he was juré 1770-72, Meurand supplied instruments for the military mission to Constantinople in 1794. It was he who made the precision 5-minute dial described by Bedos de Celle in the second, and later, editions of his dialling treatise (1). One example of the dial is dated 1780, another, dated 1782, belonged to Antoine Pineton first Marquis de Chambrun, Maréchal de Camp and Colonel of the Cavalérie d'Orléans who, in 1818, marrried Charlotte d'Amfreville (2). Numerous instruments by him are known (3).
