Biographie
was probably a clockmaker who in 1598 signed an unusual astrolabe designed by Christopher Laurens also from Sens (1). A volvelle instrument dated 1631 is also known (2).
Notes biographiques
1 Adler Planetarium, Chicago, see Webster & Webster 82 no 15. The unusual name for Sens derives from a usage in Cæser, 'de Bello Gallico' that is also found on the Peutinger table. Lewis & Short , 69.
2. The volvelle instrument is in a private collection. Since it is at a long remove in date, and there is little similarity in the lettering employed it is possible that it was made by a different maker, a supposition reinforced by the fact that it is signed ‘Ludonicvs’ not ‘Ludovicus’.
