Known by several well-made, instruments - a sectors, a military sector, three universal equinoctial ring dials incorporating an extra hour-conversion ring, and a silver, oval, horizontal dial, Nicolas Blondeau seems to have emigrated to Italy whence the latter instrument was signed in 1683. The extra ring in the two universal equinoctial dials, which converts automatically between Italian hours and standard astronomical hours (counted 12-12), also probably implies an Italian origin. A sector is signed from Naples in 1694 (1). A case of drawing instruments by him was included in a cabinet of physics purchased by the Prince of Tarsia at Naples for his library in 1743 from a local bookseller (2).
