The younger brother of Pierre and Bapiste Blondeau, Roch Blondeau is known working between 1650 and 1673 in premises situated on the Quai du Grand Cours d’Eau ( = Quai de l’Horloge) ‘à l’enseigne de la Boussole’ (1) . In 1658 he married Nicolle le Clerc (d. 1678) with whom he had five children. Juré of the Founders’ Corporation in 1667 (2), unlike most makers he not infrequently dated instruments of his production. He held the title of 'Ingénieur du Roi' from at least the first half of 1656 since he is so described in a lease which he took out on 10 May 1656 (3). In 1668 he made the official standard Paris aune. (4). Instruments by him include rules (one dated 1670), sectors and pocket sun-dials, one being dated 1667, a sector 1671, and another 1673. In 1654 he was expert valuer for instruments in the probate inv entory of the architect Jacques Lermercier, and in 1659 for the instrgfument-maker Daniel Chorez (
