A general instrument constructor with a concentration on instruments for astronomy (including domes), geodesy, meteorology and physics, Mailhat was trained by Gautier. He was director of Secrétan’s workshops, from 1888, before purchasing the business in 1894 (1). He was succeeded by Mouronval, who retained his predecessor’s name, at a date before 1912 (2).
