Founder of a family business which spanned three generations, specialised in the production of high precision thermometers and barometers for meteorology, physics and chemistry. The company manufactured the standard thermometers supplied with copies of the standard metre.Their Fortin barometer made for the dépôt de la Marine is mentioned by Caspari in 1872.1 In 1878 they supplied special order thermometers to the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures. Others are to be fund at the National Physics Laboratory;
