Anthéaume was mentioned by Bernouilli as an private optician, one of three amateurs of optics (the other two were the Abbé Bouriot and de l'Estang), able to make good achromatic telescopes. 'J'ai entendu parler de lunettes de 10 à 122 pieds, de leur façon, et j'en ai vu moi-même, qui ne cède en rien à celles de Dollond' (1). Duval Leroy in his translation of Robert Smith’s Opticks, notes that Antheaume used cork blanks when grinding his lenses (2)..
