Perhaps after working on his own c. 1860, in 1862 Barbier formed a partnership with Stanislas Fenestre. Initially specialised in the making of light-house lights on Fresnel's model, they diversified into the mecanisms needed to rotate the lights and became leading makers of light-house equipment. Barbier was a founder member of the Société Internationale des Electriciens in 1884 (1). By 1900, consequence of the marriage alliances of Barbier's daughters, the firm had become Barbier, Bénard Turenne. The latter company amalgamated with E. Krauss in the 1930s.
