Biographie

The company was founded in 1812 but did not begin the manufacture of precision instrumentation until 1835 as a result of its close association with the artillery school (1). It moved to Nancy after the Franco-German war of 1870/71. The association with the military college remained close, many of the instruments made being designed by staff members of the college, in particular by the Colonel Goulier. The company began the manufacture of photographic apparatus and binoculars in 1889, besides more specialised apparatus such as Thoulet colorimetric tube (2).
