Biographie

Manufactured circular magnets for pivoted-card magnetic compasses. These were manufactured by Dumoulin-Froment as was the 'boussole-circulaire patented by Duchemin in 1874 (N° 101.992) and tried at sea between 1873 and 1875. A known surviving example carries the serial number 1616 (1). A pair of circular magnets signed by Duchemin are attached to a wind-rose by Dumoulin-Froment numbered 1579. A copy of the 4th edition of Duchemin's pamphlet concerning the compass is dedicated to the Commandant Duperre (2). Adetailed description and. approbation of Duchemin's compass is given in Ledieu (3).
