He succeeded to the foundry created by his father for casting and the making of industrial and agricultural machines. Although Calla's involvement with instrument-making was only marginal, Eugène Bourdon spent a few months in his workshop in 1832. Calla specialised in artistic casting making the candelabras designed for the courtyard of the Louvre by Duban in 1854. He was decorated in 1843, was secretary of the Société d'Encouragement, and the author of numerous publications.1
