A mechanician who made several machines 'very useful for dentists'.1 In 1773/74 he constructed the mounting for the large burning mirror designed by N. de Bernières, Controleur Général des Ponts et Chausées which was presented to the Académies des Sciences by its president J.C.P.Trudaine de Montigny and was used by him, Macquer, Cadet de Gassicourt and Lavoisier for experiments in the following years.2 The Charpentier mentioned by Prieur as having collaborated in the making of the new metric standards was probably the same man.3 In 1792 he petitioned for a recompense from the Bureau des Arts & Métiers.4
