Biographie
-
Mechanicien at the Ecole Polytéchnique from at least May 1796, having probably been recruited by Hassenfratz. 'Chef de l'atelier des instruments de géographie et de topographie' to the Commission des Sciences et des Arts en Egypte, in December 1798 he was expected to produce a plane table every four days for the geodetic operations, and seems to have had a reputation as a tippler. Thus Cafferelli instructed Say to survey Cirot closely and 'if he drinks and fails to work, to punish him severely'. He died of the plague in Egypt shortly before the return of the mission. 1
