Biographie
was the son of Jean I Delagarde (d. before 1552) and, like him, a watch and clock-maker. From c. 1551 he held a royal appointment as 'valet de chambre du Roi (Henri II), and from 1579/80 was 'orlogeur du Roi'. An astrolabe dated 1547 (1) is the earliest production known from his hand and he also made geographical clocks of which three examples have survived (2). Married with Jeanne Perdriau, Delagarde had several children of whom three were also clock-makers. Among makers with whom he is known to have had close contacts was the Chesnon family (qv),3 and he was the brother-in-law of the Protestant lawyer Jean Du Temps (or Dutems, Dutens) who was an active mathematician with an extensive mathematical library.(4).
