Biographie
De Mongenet studied medicine and mathematics in Paris where he also acquired a committment to geography. He published globe gores of 8.5/9cm which had two editions: the first in 1552 printed from wood blocks, the second c.1560, printed, perhaps in Venice, from copper plates (1). A strong influence from these gores, which themselves look back to Gemma Frisius, on globe production throughout Europe has been detected (2).
