Biographie
-
An engineer, trained in the Ecole des Arts et Manufactures Abel Louis Doignon began his career in the workshops of Joseph Eugène Deschiens, whose premises he would later occupy.
In 1890 a company was formed by Dumoulin, Froment et Doignon, with a capital of 140.000 francs, to construct precision instruments. A steel pantograph carrying their name is preserved in Llisbon Observatory. The new company had in fact purchased the business of Dumoulin as its base, but was dissolved on 1 August 1893.
From 1894 Doignon, now sole proprietor, obtained a series of patents for liquid compases telegraphic apparatus and dynamos. By the end of the century his company was also producing all kinds of cinematograpic equipment (1).
The business continued after his death until 1955 (2).
