This cooperative business was founded by sixty. four workmen of the Chambre Syndicale des Ouvriers et Instruments de Précision, Paris. The secretary of the group becoming the. first president. At first production centred on photographic and cinematographic equipment, followed by Morse machines for the French post office. Telephony remained of importance, but electrical measurement devised established the reputation. of the firm and et ensured its trans fer to electronic apparatus in the 1960s. Alongside its headquarters, five factories were successively opened in France employing some 4600 workmen whose salaries remained modest in contrast with an advanced social policy adopted right from the beginning. Decline began to set in towards 1979 provoked by the loss of the important telephonic markets because of the obsolescence of its products. During the 1990s AOIP specialised in portable instruments. After it closed in in 2003 it was purchased by ASGARD who continued to manufactire portabe electrical measuring instruments.
