The cousin of Auguste Secretan (qv), he succeeded to the direction of Lerebours & Secretan in 1871. He completed the construction of the telescope for Toulouse. In the manufacture of large observatory instruments he worked in collaboration with the Henry brothers for the optical part. Despite being best known for this speciality, the business stocked an entire range of optical goods including eye-glasses, monocles and opera glasses. At the 1876 Philadelphia Exhibition he showed examples of d'Abbadie's simplified reflecting theodolite, the aba.1 In 1882 the English writer Samuel Butler bought a camera lucida from the Paris shop.2
