Biographie

was a land-surveyor with a royal appointment from 1766 onwards. Barbay became a master glass-worker at the factory of Montmirail, which he also surveyed, and where he worked for at least fifteen years. Montmirail was a glass-works specialised in the production of scientific apparatus (1) and here Barbay produced a number of terrestrial and celestial globes, an armillary sphere and a globe specially designed for the resolution of problems in dialing all in glass (2).
