Biographie
was the son of Louis Huette (qv ). One of six children he was trained as an optician by his father from 1802 onwards although this formation was cut short by his father's early death in 1805. In 1819 he became a member of the Société Académique de Nantes to whic he was a faithful and active member throughout his life. Awarded a bronze medal at the 1825 departmental exhibition, Huette was reputed for the quality of his navigation and meteorological instruments. The latter were of special interest to Huette who took on responsability for the meteorologi Ωcal observations at the Observatoire astronomique de la Marine at Nantes (founded 1827). In this he was assiduous until 1870 when his successor Lefièvre (qv ) took over the work.1 Huette was Breguet's agent in Nantes.2
Notes biographiques
1 information from Olivier Sauzereau. Two sextants, a graphometer and a marine barometer in the Château des Ducs de Vretagne, Nantes may be the work of either father or son.
2 See Breguet marine chronometer No 5060 sold to Huette on 13 October 1835 for 1100 francs, now in the (private) Breguet Museum, Paris. Numerous other references to Huette are to be found in the Breguet books. Numerous glimpses of Huette and his careful work in collaboration with Nantes observatory are to be found in Sauzereau.
