Described himself as a manufacturing optician and specialised in instruments for racing and mountaineering. He was the official supplier to Club Alpin français and to the Société des Touristes du Dauphiné and was himself a member of the first of these bodies. The instruments in his alpine catalogue of 1879 were barometers (of which he recommended only the orometric barometers of Naudet and Hulot & Cie made on Colonel Goulier's model); thermometers; binoculars; telescopes; small compasses; geologists compasses and hammers; magnifying glasses; pedometers; chart measurers; Goulier's levelling alidade.
