Yvon studied at the Ecole Polytechnique and was the son-in-law of Jobin, whose company he joined as engineer in 1911, becoming a partner in 1923. Here he devoted himself to research into geometrical optics guided by Florian, an employee of Lacour-Berthiot, and by the Comte de la Baume Pluvinel. At the same time he made the acquaintance of Henri Chrétien who had contacted Jobin for the construction of his spectro-heliograph. From their discussions the idea of Chrétien writing a book on geometrical optics was conceived, and through the intervention of Jobin, the Syndicat Patronal de l'Optique agreed to finance its publication (1).
