Biographie

André was apprenticed as an engraver to Desforges in 1759. He does not seem to have practiced this trade as he is found in Paris from 1771 as a 'monteur en boîtes' and was working in the Manufacture de Paris in 1789.1 A 'Butterfield'-type dial in silver, dateable to c. 1805/6 celebrating the battle of Austerlitz by him is known.2
