Biographie

An optician who founded his business in 1854 particularly for the making of military binoculars (1). He attempted to develop the prismatic binoculars and telescopes conceived by Porro c.1857. Although these were displayed in the 1867 exhibition according to the company itself 'they did not immediately obtain from the public the reception they merited', presumably a discreet way of expression chagrin at the fact that they received no award (2).
