Biographie

The son of the historian and. geographer Claude Delisle and Nicole Charlotte Millet de la Croyère, Delisle was taught by his father and by Gian Domenico Cassini. He published his first works: maps of the continents, a world map and a globe in 1700.Two years later he was atached to the Académie des Sciences as pupil of Cassini becoing adjoint and associé astronomer in 1716 and 1718. At the same time he ran a cartographical business until his death publishing some ninety maps (1).
His daughter married the geogrfapher. Philippe Buache who for a. time continued his father-in-las's business in association with his widow. (2)
