15 June 1891, Decohorne obtained a patent for a 'regulateur solaire'. This was a large scale. meridian dial which. when properly mounted, would indicate Paris mean time (= legal time) between 10am and 2pm. Decohorne had developed it in repsonse to the legislation of March 1890 that prescribed Paris mean time as the legal time for the whole of France. The instrument cou ld be used at any locality in France, Corsica, Algeria and Tunis. One example, that was installed in Marseille, is known (1).
