A pupil of the Brunner brothers who continued their business after 1890; A noted manufacturer of geodetic apparatus whose portable magnotometer was particularly widely used. Of these no 42 was used by the United States Coast & Geodetic Survey,1 nos 15 and 55 are mentioned in the correspondence of the Carnegie Institution, Washington, while no 98 was in private hands in 2009.2 Two dip circles signed by him and numbered 16 and 46, the latter also marked 'Service Hydrographique de la Marine No 1', are known.3 He showed theodolites at the 1912 Paris Time conference.4
