Biographie
A maker of geometrical models illustrating the principles of Monge’s descriptive geometry Allizeau also made a set of models to illustrate the movement of different coloured rays in optical instruments which he showed at the 1819 exhibition. They obtained a ‘mention honorable’ as being useful in the teaching of mathematical physics1. In the 1827 exhibition report he is said to have been known 'since a long time' for his polyedral models useful in crystallography.2 A compendium of instruments for a mineralogist with his signature on one instrument (the only one signed) was made for Jacques-Louis, Comte de Bournon, Directeur Général du Cabinet de Minéralogie of Louis XVIII. According to a priced list in the lid the total value of the component instruments was 327 francs.3
