Biographie
This proprietor of a foundry for art objects and furniture adornments finds a place in this dictionary in right of his signature on a double kilogramme added to the collections of the Conservatoire Nationale des Arts et Métiers in 1848, a standard metre in the collections of the Société Métrique de France, and two town standard metres in private collections, one for Langres, the other for Ruffec. The foundry was established in 1804, in association with François Thomas Matelin. This partnership came to an end in February 1820. By 1834 Denière employed 400 workmen and had attained a high reputation largely based on the excellent quality of the bronze he employed in his castings, particularly those for clock cases (Breguet being among his. clients), candelabras and sculptures. In 1844 Denière introduced his son Guillaume into the business under whose direction it continued until shortly after his death in 1901 (1).
